So, we got our air conditioner fixed just in time for the power to go out all over campus yesterday at 5pm. Dinner, for me, was hard to come by because we didn't want to open the fridge or the freezer so that everything in them could be preserved as long as possible. The power on campus has never been out (as long as I've been here) for more than 20 min, so it wasn't really a big deal until they came by 2-3 hours later to tell us that a transistor-transformer-thing blew in the campus power plant and caused a small fire. They estimated that we would not have power all night. Two fire trucks came rolling onto campus, as well. One was to deal with the fire at the power plant and the other was to get people out of the elevators in Hope (our largest and newest dorm).
Whatever little motivation I actually had to do homework yesterday, left with the electricity... and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. That evening we all bought candles at Albertson's (we were given special permission to burn candles just for the night) and congregated in different peoples' rooms. It was actually really nice to be able to hang out and relax as a "large group" because there never is a night when most everyone is sitting around with nothing to do.
So we talked until 11pm when all members of the opposite gender had to leave our apartment, and then a small group started a worship time on the deck. It was totally awesome. I just sat there in the candlelight staring up at the sky, singing worship songs and totally immersed in the awesome power and love of God. It was the coolest thing to think about how inconvenient the power outage was, and yet how wonderfully God used it to give us a break from homework, draw us closer to each other, and closer to Him.
At 3am the power came back on and our beautiful AC returned with it. Unfortunately, that meant I had to get up for my 8am class.
