Paul Newman

1925-2008

When I received my Entertainment Weekly this week, I was a little confused by the cover with Paul Newman's picture. The name rang a bell, but the face did not look familiar. I flipped through the article and kept thinking, "Man, I missed out. This guy was awesome... what movies do I need to go watch now?"

I skimmed the movies that spanned more than 5 decades hoping I had seen one of them and then I would recognize him and think, "Ooooohhhhh... HIIIIMMMMM!!!" But I had seen none of the movies until I reached the last one: Cars (2006). I was ashamed. How had I missed Paul Newman for so long!?!

Then, I noticed a familiar caricature... and it was of Paul Newman's face... but where had I seen it...? And then it hit me: salad dressing.

In fact, I have always favored Newman's Own salad dressings. And sure enough, I went to the fridge to check and there he was on my Light Balsamic Vinegrette. And as strange as it may seem, I was comforted to know that Paul Newman had been in my fridge all along.

May I suggest Butch Cassidy and the Sundace Kid, The Sting, The Hudsucker Proxy, and Cool Hand Luke.

Wait, I have seen the Hudsucker Proxy... but it was a long time ago. Who was he?
