church in MO - visit one - love it
I went to Memorial Presbyterian Church this morning and loved it! Its a gorgeous church (I really miss the idea of big beautiful houses of worship... though it doesn't really matter and it can become a kind of idolatry, it does create an amazing mood and reverence), but honestly, I was intimidated. I knew that I should start with Presbyterian because "non-denominational" really doesn't exist out here, but I was afraid it would be too formal and stiff for me to feel comfortable. How wrong was I!
I knew I was on the right track when I looked up their website last night. They seemed much more relaxed and contemporary than I had first assumed. And when I went, I was shocked to see the large number of young couples (why this shocked me, with the church being so close to a huge college/grad school, I have no idea), most everyone dressed in jeans. Then the Assossiate Pastor came out dressed in robes and a tie and collar... but his hair was gelled to the middle of his head... like a tame mohawk.
It was... ya... it was just way more perfect than I could have imagined. I met the pastors, the director of community, and a couple other members who had gone to Washington for their MSW... I'm so stoked! :D Yay God!
I will take my own pictures in time, but here are a couple I grabbed from their website.
