First Frost

When I was a kid, I used to love to wake up to frosted roof tops and white-tipped lawns. We would try sliding on it (which didn't work very well) on our way to school. And one morning (I think it was 4th grade), there was so much frost on the school field, that we all started making ice balls and throwing them at each other. I'm sure a Yard Duty (that's what we called the teachers patrolling the playground) broke up the party, but it was still fun... I can't believe I remember that.

This morning, I was running late. I rushed out the door past my frosted lawn. I didn't even notice the smokiness created by my warm breath. And all of a sudden there it was. My car was completly covered in little frosted icicles. I couldn't help but smile. I knew it would take forever to melt the winshield but I didn't care. There was frost on my car... and that means that its finally going to be like the NorCal winters I remember. I've missed them. I haven't had one for five long years.

And I'm sure that in about two months, when I'm living in St. Louis, I won't be so keen on the frost and the cold, but right now... its beautiful.
