My jobs for this evening were to go grocery shopping (for myself because I have no more lunch fixin's), call and get Health Insurance (FINALLY its going to work out!), call and order this other thing, watch Saved (I taped it on Monday), and... wait, I thought there was more.
Well, anyway, I started watching Saved while I was eating dinner... and then I decided to make the call for insurance. Well, in the middle of that call the power went out, and the line went dead (I was talking on a cordless phone). So I raced upstairs to catch my agent (so cool) calling me back, and worked out almost everything I needed to know before I filled out the application (which I couldn't do because there was no power).
But I also couldn't call and order the other thing because I didn't know the number (it was in an e-mail on the computer... and again, no power), and I couldn't finish watching Saved, and I couldn't go grocery shopping because I wasn't about to open the refridgerator or add more things to it.
So there went my plans for the evening... and all of a sudden, I just had to get out of the house... no fans... stuffy 87 degree house... ya.... but the thing with my parents being gone is that I get a spot in the garage... stuck behind a garage door... with no power.
But I knew... that there had to be some way to open it... and I thought I'd seen my dad do it... so I texted Josh... but he was at work and definitely not prompt enough with a response, so I ventured out there determined to figure it out. And low and behold, right there on the track was a lever... so I pulled it over... and then I lifted the door and voila... I am superman... uh... woman. I was so proud of myself... you have no idea. I solved the problem all by myself.
So off and away I went... but I didn't really have anywhere to go. I knew Josh was at Safeway working, though, and I knew that would be a very cold and pleasant place to be. I called people... but everyone was at work.... so Safeway it was...
Josh was just scanning all the out of stock items... so he said I could follow him around... I ended up picking up three items that I hadn't planned on purchasing... he he... you know those marketing tactics of placing random items on racks in the middle of every isle? Ya, they came up with that by kidnapping me and studying my brain.
But they were all useful, I promise. Okay, so first I picked up some noisemaker cat-toy-ball-things because my cats only have one toy left.. they've lost the others and I swear they're not behind the couch. And with all this heat... they've been so miserable... so I got them a toy.
The second was a special thing (that I didn't know existed until I saw it on a little rack in the middle of the isle) that you place over the drain and it catches the hair... so it doesn't clog the drain... what a beautiful thought... this will mean I have to pester my poor father less often... what a nice daughter I am...
The third was a cute little travel container of tropical flavor TUMS. I have never had a use for Tums, but my friend Shiphrah here at work (she's 5 months pregnant) is always using them to aleviate heartburn), so I thought it would be nice ot have a small re-fillanble container for her purse.
On Josh's break we went for frozen yogurt and the whole world was there... wow, but that Banana Cream Pie flavor was worth the wait... so cool and refreshing. I then went home and lit a bunch of tea lights all over the downstairs because the power was indeed still out... it really felt like camping...
I heard the neighbors talking outside, so I went out to say hello and found out that the family across the street had been out of power since Saturday until this afternoon... crazy! I prepared myself for a night without fans and I decided to sleep on the couch... which proved to be more uncomfortable and unerving than I had anticipated. Things look different in the dark and I have grown accustomed to my room... but not the downstairs... I kept getting freaked out and I couldn't fall asleep.
Finally, I must have slept because I awoke around 1am and the fan above my head was on... so I went upstairs to sleep the rest of the morning... its amazing I didn't fall asleep at work... again... they really have to give me more work... oh wait, I don't want that. This is my last week anyway...
