Mason & Maren

For those of you who don't know, Mason and Maren are two of my favorite people. All of our parents hang out, but the three of us are still scattered and rarely get to see each other all at once. Usually, summer means spending lots of time with both of them, but this summer they won't even be in town at the same time... ever... and I'm really sad.

You know how they say "three's a crowd"? Well, I only have two groups of friends where that has never been the case... in fact, with them... three is the perfect number. Mason, Maren, and I have been known to stay up until 7am talking... about everything... the conversation always switches back and forth from funny to meaningful... jokes and laughter to hearing each others pains and struggles... and I love every minute of it.

Last spring, Mason (at UCSD) and I (at Biola) set aside a weekend and went to see Maren (at Azusa). It was a lazy wonderful weekend... and we even went to a Jars concert. But now, I am back home and Azusa is out for the summer, but Maren has been in Canary Islands (off the coast of Spain) on a mission trip. And though Mason has been home to visit periodically, I haven't been able to see him very much at all. Finally, this Sunday we spent the afternoon together and it was lovely...

But today, I went to the airport with Mason and his mom to say goodbye (he'll be finishing the quarter and then going to India for 2 months... awesome opportunity... but he won't be here), and I'll be at the airport when Maren arrives home tomorrow. And then believe it or not, Maren will leave for a semester abroad in Australia a week before Mason gets home in July. And I'm not happy about it!

Of course they're off doing wonderful things and having great experiences... and of course, I do get to see each of them and I always treasure that time... but the trio will not unite this summer and both of them are missing our Tahoe camping trip... and it just makes me really sad...
