The Love of Heroes

Rosie always says it so well:
[Speaking of the movie 300]
But one thing I also really enjoyed was the relationship between King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo. He was strong, confident, Herculean; and she was strong, proud and brave. And he absolutely respected her and she absolutely loved him. They knew each other and loved each other, but there was no weakness in either. There was no reason to speak "I love you" when that's the way they lived. They were Heroes and loved as such.

And frankly, after all the stuff you see on television of the misunderstandings and miscommunication between the sexes, which is half true and half a device to keep the viewer's attention over the course of the season, it is a welcome relief to see a husband/wife relationship so strong. Like a united front against their enemies. I liked the relationship between Hugh jackman's and Rachel Weiz's characters in "The Fountain" as well because they absolutely loved each other, and understood that.

It's just plain cool to see that on the big screen, after all this other crap about boy meets girl, boy takes girl out, boy does something stupid, girl is hurt and runs away, boy realizes error of his ways, boy begs forgiveness from girl, girl cries and takes him back, boy and girl get married.

Ugh.

For me, I'm afraid, that simply won't do. If there are gentlemen out there willing to settle for that, fine. Frankly, i've got something a bit better in mind. The love of heroes, that's what it should be called, instead of 'falling in love'. Yes, that's what I want; The love of heroes. Perhaps I'm setting my standards too high.

But really, should a Queen settle for anything less? And would a King want her to?
Amen to that! :D

I may be an unconditional lover of chick flicks, but of course its all a bunch of superficialness where you only see the warm and fuzzy stuff... and as we all know, the world is not a warm and fuzzy place, and therefore it takes hero strength to actually love.
