A Strange Silence

There is now a strange silence in my apartment. No, its not really silent because I pretty much always have at least the radio on in the kitchen (because if it ever really is silent, then I'd stop doing anything... seriously... its as if music is my power source... hey, new super hero...), but the sound felt emptier tonight.

Our kitchen and bathtub facets have been dripping since I moved in. I didn't call anyone about it because it was minor and I wrote about it on my intake evaluation of the apartment... I thought they'd get the hint if they wanted to fix them.

Then I kept walking into the bathroom after Qi Qi had been in there and the floor in front of the bathroom sink was always a puddle. I seriously couldn't figure out what she was doing (I've found many other strange things in our apartment that were her doing, so it wasn't the biggest shock in the world). So I just kept putting a towel over it, always meaning to mention it to her.

One day, I was using the hot water at the bathroom sink and all of a sudden water started pouring out of the cabinet below it. So weird! And no wonder! Qi Qi is always using the hot water at the sink and it must have been what was causing the puddle this whole time. So I mentioned it to her, and apparently she had figured it out weeks ago, but hadn't called anyone (because her English isn't good enough, yet), but also hadn't mentioned it to me... kind of weird... kind of counterproductive, but whatever. So I put it on my To Do list to call immediately because I figured they would want to know that the sink was leaking into the cabinet.

Well, two weeks went by... and I hadn't called. So this past Friday morning, I just made myself do it (who knows why certain simple tasks take me forever and other random things I do right away). I called and listed off all of the plumbing issues to the answering machine in case they might care and since they were coming out anyway:

-the kitchen sink always drips
-the kitchen sink vibrates and screeches whenever you turn on the cold water
-the bathroom sink makes a terribly loud honking noise when you turn on the hot water
-the facet in the tub always drips
-the tub drains ridiculously slowly
[all of which I had been putting up with since I moved in]
-the bathroom sink leaks water from the cabinet onto the floor whenever the hot water is used

That very day, someone came to the apartment to check it out. He fixed what he could and said that the facets were so worn out that's he'd be back on Monday to replace them. So today, two facets were replaced and the other was apparently fixed some other way. And I have two beautiful new facets! :D

All that to explain the cause for the strange sound vacancy... no more drips in the tub and no more constant dripping in the kitchen... its weird... it really is weird... I almost miss it...
