Typical Day with the Boys

Three-year-old Ethan and Christopher walk into my room at 9am and say, "Michal, get up. The sun is out." Then I cook eggs and try and coax them to stay seated at their little picnic table... that's a bit of a challenge. Then I clean up breakfast and we either go swimming, watch a movie, play Sesame Street games on the computer, play with playdough, draw pictures, or take a walk with their little red wagon.

Then I make lunch and again spend most of my energy reminding them to stay seated and eat.... three year olds don't like to stay in one place for long. After lunch its nap-time... which takes some coaxing... and even then, I usually spend the next 2-3 hours reminding them that its not playtime and they need to lay quietly in their beds.

If I'm lucky enough that they actually do fall asleep, then there is 2 hours of complete silence... so I usually turn on a movie or the show I taped from the night before. Then I start dinner so that its ready soon after they wake up.

Dinner is eaten at the big table... which also takes some coaxing because they rarely eat their veggies without complaint. Then, I clean up dinner and we either go swimming or play some more before their bedtime.

On days when I give them a bath (like today), I get to actually clean out their room after they've been washed and they're just playing in the tub. I then have time to scour their room and pull out everything that they've put under their bed, put back all the books and toys, and find all the sippy cups that have been lost amidst the mess.

Then its bedtime... which usually consists of a lot more coaxing to brush their teeth and go potty... and then reminders to stay in bed and not to talk. The way they talk during the rest of the day, you'd never know they could whisper, but they do it when they don't want you to hear them talking to each other.

So then, by 9:30 or 10pm (usually), they're alseep and I have the house to myself. I finish up whatever laundry I was doing, tidy up all the toys that have been strewn around the living room, do any last-minute cleaning up of the kitchen, and turn on my favorite TV-show or call a friend.

Then, I get to go to bed... and the next thing I know, they're in my room again telling me the sun is up.

Okay, this is the freakiest thing ever...last night in bed I decided that in the morning I was going to request a post entitled "An average day in the life of Michal"---and you already wrote it...that's just creepy. Oh, sorry I couldn't take your call yesterday, I had my phone on silent. But call me today if you have time, I should be home. Sounds like you're doing a great job with the boys, and good luck with the church group.
