I picked Regina up from school again today and we went to Rite Aid to get the Thrifty's ice cream that she loves (Chocolate Malted Crunch)... and she always wants the pint. I'm so glad she doesn't get as hyper as she used to because she was sure a handful a couple years ago.
Well, guess what holiday is coming up... and in Regina's calendar, has been "coming up" since June. The correct answer would be Halloween. She loves it... and her favorite thing is to be a vampire with fangs. Because I know that she just thinks its fun to be intimidating and she doesn't really mean anything by it or have any "dark intentions", it doesn't really bother me anymore. This year, she's totally distressed, though, because she can't decide what to be for Halloween. She contemplated being a fairy-vampire... or a pirate (she loves pirates - and Johnny Depp especially).
So... her favorite thing to do at the beginning of the fall semester is to go to Halloween stores... so that’s what we did today. We found the coolest purple fairy wings, too, and I wanted her to get them... but she decided that she liked the wings but she was having second thoughts about the fairy-vampire idea. So we wandered around the store for a while (she's very indecisive)... dodging creepy things and then she found a punk-pink-cute-vampire costume and feel in love with it. The only problem was that its $60 (on sale). So she said she'd have to ask her dad... and she's afraid he'll say no.
So we finally left the store with a new pair of fangs for her. She bought some last year (with me at another Halloween store), but they were cheep and they didn't work very well or last very long. So her new pair was a little more expensive, but definitely of better quality. She totally cracked me up, though, because of this one section of the store that is set up with a bunch of props that jump out at you when you walk by. And she wanted so badly to go over there but the very thing that interested her also terrified her... One of the guys who worked there assured her that the props weren’t turned on, but she still had to watch a couple other people walk over before she decided it was safe... but even then, I wasn't allowed to walk too far away from her... it was funny.
The best part, though, was when I took her home and we saw that the house light was on and the front door was wide open, but none of the cars were there. She thought her brother (who is my age) might have left it open, since apparently, he does that occasionally, so she called him. He said that he had just left the house and had indeed left the door open. So she decided it was safe to enter and she took her stuff from my car. I waited in the car and watched her walk into the house and I almost died laughing. Even from the bottom of the driveway, I could see her tiptoeing through the doorway and checking around all the corners like she was expecting to have someone jump out at her. She looked around a bit and then turned around and shrugged at me, and then continued to tiptoe into the rest of the house... and I just drove away laughing. That girl cracks me up!
